Princess Margaret Hospital

Thomas William Robertson

Thomas was born in May 2003 at 26 weeks gestation in an ambulance on the way to Kind Edward Memorial Hospital. He weighed only 1,030 grams. Being born this early resulted in a number of health problems such as breathing difficulties, chronic lung disease, necrotizing enterocolitis.

He had a bowel resection and double hernia operation all within his first few months of life, Thomas spent much of his first year in King Edward and Princess Margaret Hospitals and has had continuing follow-up care with surgeons, Specialist, Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists.

Today, Thomas is a happy and enthusiastic three years old. He is, for the most part, a typical three year old boy. He had some development delays in his fine and gross motor skills… but in all things so far, he gets there in the end! He loves playing with other kids, jumping on his trampoline, listening to stories and chasing his dog, Harry. Thomas goes to Kindermusik and loves to sing and dance and he will start kindy next year. Best of all, Thomas loves Dorothy the Dinosaur and doughnuts with pink icing!

Thomas is now a big brother to his little sister, Ava, who is 15 months old. Not to be outdone by her brother, Ava was born at 35 week of age. Ava was in Princess Margaret Hospital for one month.

Both Thomas and Ava are now in good health but require ongoing visits with doctors and specialists. We are very grateful for the quality of care they have received during their stays at Princess Margaret Hospital and from their medical teams. Mostly, we are thankful for our beautiful, happy children and the job we get from watching them grow.
